How to choose an AI provider without nasty surprises
The AI market is full of promises. To separate the wheat from the chaff you don't need to understand technology: you just need to ask the right questions. Here are the five that matter.
Who owns the code and the data?
If the answer isn't "you", be wary. You should be able to take your accounts, data and configuration with you if you ever decide to leave. Forced lock-in is a red flag.
Where is the data stored and is it GDPR-compliant?
Especially if you handle sensitive data. Ask where it's hosted (ideally in the EU) and whether they sign a data processing agreement (DPA). If they hesitate, that's bad.
Who maintains it when it breaks?
AI isn't install-and-forget: it's a living service. Make sure someone is responsible for maintenance, with clear response times — not just a software licence.
