AI voice agent: can it answer your business phone?

Not everyone messages on WhatsApp: many people still call. An AI voice agent answers those calls and resolves them by talking, not with a "press 1" menu. Here's how far it goes today.

It's not an IVR or a voicemail

The classic IVR makes you navigate menus ("press 1 for appointments, 2 for hours") and voicemail only takes a message that maybe nobody listens to. An AI voice agent understands what you say in your own words and replies by speaking, the way a person at the desk would.

The customer calls, asks for an appointment on Thursday afternoon, and the agent checks availability and books it, all by voice.

What it resolves by phone

Answering frequent questions (hours, location, prices), booking and changing appointments against your real calendar, taking details and, when the case needs it, handing the call to a person with the context of what was discussed. All at any hour, including after hours and weekends.

The limit, and why it's good there is one

A good voice agent knows when to step back: faced with an emergency, a delicate complaint or a request outside its scope, it doesn't improvise, it escalates to a person. In Catalan, voice still needs care to sound natural, which is why we handle it case by case before putting it on real calls.

Frequently asked questions

Can you tell it is not a person?

You can, and it says so itself at the start of the call: mandatory since August 2026 and, besides, hiding it is a bad idea. What decides whether a call goes well is not how human it sounds, but whether it resolves what the person needed.

How quickly does it answer?

It answers on the first ring; what matters is the pause between you stopping and it starting. Under a second the conversation flows, and beyond a second and a half it already sounds odd, which is why the model is chosen for latency as much as for language quality.

Can the caller interrupt it?

Yes. If you start talking over it, it stops and listens, as anyone would. A system that keeps talking while you talk to it is what makes people hang up.

Can I keep the clinic's number?

Yes. The usual arrangement is conditional forwarding: only the calls you do not pick up reach the agent, plus out of hours, lunchtime and weekends. There is no need to change the number patients already have printed.
